ASSIGNMENT

As we discuss the realizations, Engineers and Scientists may have not considered the impacts and  Downstream affects of critical decisions, consider the actions which have led to the extreme pollution across the world, answer the following questions.
Post your answers in the comment section to below questions.

In your observations of the videos identify obstacles which would hold back or hinder the collection process of the ocean clean up and the interceptors

Take a stance on whether these types of collection devices are serving the symptom or the cause in the fight against pollution and environmental inequality for some across the world?

PRINCIPLES OF ENGINEERING II INTRODUCTION

 PRINCIPLES OF ENGINEERING

                        DESIGN THINKING HAPPENS HERE

     ~THINK~ DESIGN ~ CREATE ~

Here we will work to Design, Create, Innovate & Invent new exciting designs and products through many different mediums, including additive and subtractive manufacturing, explore careers, explore robot construction, run CNC, Use Rapid Prototyping and lasers to fabricate parts  But first lets review the class and complete the pre-assessment.

Assignment:#1
1) Log into you H drive and create an Engineering folder, this is where your CAD files will be stored.
2) Log into your Google drive, this is where your research and online docs will be housed.
3) Answer the following questions on a GD in your folder.  You will submit this to a google classroom assignment Engineering Design Questions

Define what Design and Technology means to you?

Discuss social & environmental implications Engineers must consider as they create new products or innovate existing ones?

What influences/drives engineering concepts and innovations of product?

What are some of the Core Elements of Engineering design?

Assignment: #2
Once you have completed the questions above, please follow the links below and complete the online assessment and the specific course pre-assessment.  Remember this is not a scored assessment.  Rather it is used as a starting place in which to determine your learning and connections you make throughout the semester.
Pre Assessment.

Airplane Problem Solving

Problem: DESIGN & BUILD AN AIRPLANE

Attempt #1
In a given amount of time, design and build an airplane that will fly the farthest the fastest.
Important!!

1) Click on the fighter Jets to bring you to the Problem statement and analysis document for the airplane activity GD,  make a copy and put it in your folder

2) Make a prediction on the Problem statement and analysis document before you make any flight attempts.

3) Fly your plane, make observations of how it fly's and the distance.

4) Answer the questions on the document.

5) Make a copy of the Design Map and follow directions.  Include at the end of the questions on the document.

Biomimicry

How Mother Nature Has Influenced

Engineering

ways engineers have been inspired by design..

The Innovators Using Nature's Design Principles to Create Green Tech

Examples of Biomimicry design

Using Mother Natures Genius in Architecture

Biomemetric materials

Key Questions to consider before you begin your design.

  1. Do shapes influence design?

  2. Do Animals/environment  influence engineering /design?

  3. Does animals adaptation influence design concepts?

  4. Think about what type of things could improve peoples lives

Application steps.

1) Think about answers to the questions above on your own

2) Find animal influences or something specific in mother nature

that influences you to INVENT or INNOVATE the design of a product

     FTWE (feathers, teeth, wings, eyes)

Design your product...Concept must come directly from the above...Color changing chameleon.  Octopus rope...Does not have to work but has to have the conception of how something specific can be applied for a new product.

Used clay, straws, glue guns...very simple stuff 3 class periods to design/build/present

Standards to be addressed

PBGR 1: The Nature of Technology

Students will identify and demonstrate the interrelationships between technologies and other fields, working to become technologically literate and adaptable in all situations.

PBGR 2:Technology and Society

Students will develop an understanding of the role technology played in

society throughout history as well as the influence/effect technology currently

plays culturally, socially and environmentally and how technologies can continually

evolve to benefit society.

"Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible"                                                            ~ Albert Einstein

Now that I have your attention!
Imagine you are laying there on a summer day with your little cousin watching the clouds float by across the summer sun and they said to you, lets build a ladder to the sun.....

Image result for ladder to the sun

WOULD YOU DO IT!

NOW THAT YOUR MIND IS IN THE CORRECT SPACE, PRETEND YOU ARE 6 YEARS OLD...CLOSE YOUR EYES AND BRING YOURSELF BACK TO THAT TIME...FEEL THE CREATIVITY FLOW..
ASSIGNMENT #1

YOUR CREATIVITY TASK:
INVENT  SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT EXIST...
EXAMPLES:
THE LADDER TO THE SUN, SPRAY ON SOCKS, A WINDOW THAT TRANSPORTS YOU ANYWRE IN THE WORLD.

THE KEY TO THIS IS YOU HAVE TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT EXIST.  THERE ARE NO LIMITATIONS IN THE DESIGN OF YOUR PRODUCT.

DELIVERABLES
1) Sketch your product clearly, sketch it large, label each part
2) Write a crazy good description, you want to sell this product

ASSIGNMENT #2
1)Read  The article
2) Make certain you are logged into your Gmail.
3) Post a comment about what specifically struck you about this article in the comment section below.
